Lessons Learned
Album: Taking Stock
It's easy looking backward
And only seeing pain
The roads that nearly broke you
The storms you couldn't tame
You grow up dreaming white picket fences
Kids running through the yard
Then life starts dealing different cards
And showing who you are
I haven't always done the right things
Had the right words to say
I've made my share of mistakes
And I've paid along the way
But with all I've been through
I'd do it all again
I thank Jesus for the lessons learned
That made me a better man
Life's about the ups and downs
The friends we make along the way
The loves we find, the ones we lose
And the reasons that we stay
Nothing's ever guaranteed
Sometimes it's luck of the draw
But every sunrise reminds me
It's still God's world after all
I haven't always done the right things
Had the right words to say
I've made my share of mistakes
And I've paid along the way
But with all I've been through
I'd do it all again
I thank Jesus for the lessons learned
That made me a better man
I used to think success was measured
By all the things I could hold
Now I know the richest people
Ain't always made of gold
It's the scars that teach the lessons
And the hard roads that reveal
What really matters in this life
And what was always real
I haven't always done the right things
Had the right words to say
I've made my share of mistakes
And I've paid along the way
But standing where I'm standing now
Looking back on where I've been
I thank Jesus for the lessons learned
That made me a better man
No, I wouldn't change a thing
Not even when life got hard
'Cause every road that brought me here
Helped make me who I am
