The Day I Walked Away

Album: Taking Stock

2026-07-01 Country

Heading south in the dead of night

Watching headlights fade behind

Tennessee disappearing slowly

In my rearview and my mind

Part of me needed answers

Part of me wanted to fight

But another part kept saying

Just keep driving through the night

The interstate said I-75

But I was doing eighty-five

Trying to put a little distance

Between the past and the rest of my life

God works in mysterious ways

Thought my whole world ended

The day I walked away

Yeah, I thought I’d never be the same

But somewhere down that highway

Blinded by the view

God knew what He was doing

When He opened up the door and led me to you

All I had was a suitcase

A head full of doubts

Miles of asphalt in front of me

Trying to figure life out

I should've known forever

Ain't something you can force

Some roads are meant to end

So you can find a different course

Funny how a broken heart

Can help a man finally see

If I'd never left that old life

I never would've found you and me

God works in mysterious ways

Thought my whole world ended

The day I walked away

Yeah, I thought I’d never be the same

But somewhere down that highway

Blinded by the view

God knew what He was doing

When He opened up the door and led me to you

By the time I crossed that Florida line

The sun was breaking through

And for the first time in a long time

The sky was perfectly blue

I didn't know what waited for me

Or where I'd finally land

I just knew I had to leave

And trust in God’s plan

God works in mysterious ways

Thought my whole world ended

The day I walked away

Yeah, I thought I’d never be the same

But somewhere down that highway

Blinded by the view

God knew what He was doing

When He opened up the door and led me to you

Some doors are meant to close forever

And that's how it's meant to be

God works in mysterious ways

When He opened up the door and led me home to you
